Toast wants to help migrant workers in Asia send money back home. It allows users to send money using its mobile app. The process is faster and easier than using money transfer operators. The app authenticates the user’s identity for each transaction with the smartphone’s front-facing camera, comparing the image with the user’s picture it has on file. Toast has managed to get remittance licenses in Singapore, Hong Kong, and the UK.
Launched in 2013, Grofers is an online-and-app based grocery delivery startup. Its website is seeing more than 1,000 orders a day. For the app, Grofers has introduced changes that allow customers to shop in one “superstore”, rather than break their orders into different batches.
Beijing-based startup Yoli is an education startup offers Chinese speakers one-on-one English classes in an on-demand system similar to Uber’s. When a student requests an English class, any teacher can claim it if they’re available. The entire service is conducted through WeChat. For each 15 minute session, Yoli teachers earn US$4.
MC Payment is a fintech startup that funded in 2005. Its most recent product is Xaavan, a business-to-business supply chain and online invoicing system. Other solutions include mobile point-of-sale system Ffastpay for retailers and merchants; taxi company payment system MatchCab; and non-cash payment and e-wallet systems, partnering with payment schemes like MasterPass and NETS.
